The animation seems quaint after fifty years, but the opening titles for The Man With the Golden Arm were the first to be designed as an integral part of the film. It was common practice to leave theater curtains closed during the opening credits, so United Artists sent a note along with the reels asking projectionists to pull the curtains early.
